4-week Online “Bootcamp” on Jazz Phrasing in Swing and Bebop
March 28th - April 25th
Hello, mandolin friends!
I now have more details to share about my 4-week "Mandolin Bootcamp on Jazz Lines and Phrasing" which will start March 28th and go until April 25th. I am excited to teach this topic and share with everyone the course material that I’ve been writing which really gets to the heart of the jazz language I’ve developed on mandolin. The format is a new discovery for me— a mix of self-study and group Q&A Zoom sessions designed to get the student practicing with lots of exercises AND with weekly check-ins for accountability and clarification.

Weeks 1 and 2 will be on “Coquette” (key of D), and weeks 3 and 4 will cover “Night and Day” (key of C), both standards in the jazz and gypsy jazz worlds. Each week the student will have 3 tutorials to study independently and at their own pace, with a live/group Zoom session on Saturday to show off what we learned that week, further discuss topics, and do Q&A. More on the tutorials:
To learn jazz phrasing, we can’t just talk about it and explain it until we understand it— we have to play through many examples to absorb the language and style, ultimately building a vocabulary and deep understanding of the fretboard. So each tutorial not only comes with an explanation of the theory concept, but also many exercises or example phrases to play through, written in standard notation and tab. In the beginning we will set out to build a foundation, then each tutorial will add in more concepts and parts of the tune until we cover all of the chord changes. See attached examples of the exercises. (I will also provide video playing through each example phrase so you can hear and see how it’s done.)
Registration: Course cost is $250. To officially sign up, I just need to receive payment as soon as you can confirm attendance. You can find me on Zelle with my email isaaceicher@yahoo.com, on Venmo with my username @Isaac-Eicher, or on PayPal also with my email.
I am capping the number of participants to around 20 students, so our live sessions won’t be too crowded.
*FORMER STUDENT DISCOUNT* — I really appreciate my students who have supported me over the years, and I would love for you to be a part of this special course! I’m offering a 20% discount (final cost of $200) to those who have taken a private lesson with me, attended an online workshop or the Mexico Mandolin Retreat, or purchased an instructional video.
Can’t wait to study jazz lines in depth next month!
