“Fretboard Fluency & Shifting Positions”

Hello, mandolin friends!
I’m so excited to share the details and open registration for my month-long “Fretboard Fluency & Shifting Positions” course which will start August 1st and go until August 30th. I’ve really enjoyed developing the materials for this class, as this topic means a lot to me and hasn’t been explored the same way on mandolin as it has on, say, the guitar. The format and course material are designed for students who are eager to play up the neck and ready to seriously dive into this topic for a month and make some strides.

This month-long course consists of five Zoom sessions, to be held on weekends during August. In order to keep the Zoom meetings from being overcrowded, I will have two groups, so students will be assigned to either the Saturday or Sunday group. (If you have a preference, let me know when you sign up.)
Each Zoom meeting I will teach a prepared lesson, working through a PDF course book, and the students will have the following week to review the exercises and work up an etude. Then, for instance, in the Week 2 Zoom lesson, we will open with a quick review and do a Q&A to discuss any topics of interest from the previous week before moving on to the next lesson. (Zoom sessions will be recorded.) Here’s the schedule at a glance:

We will be studying scales, arpeggios, shapes, positions, and shifting moves- all with the end goal of being able to play more licks up the neck. In the teaching materials, I have broken each week up into four parts: (a) basic knowledge of the scales/fretboard, (b) the “position-shapes,” (c) shifting moves from one position to another, and (d) a big-picture etude. The exercises include standard notation, tab, and fingering numbers.
